Do your research. My CEOs pet peeve is interviewing people who don’t know anything about the agency or how they would contribute.
Remember they're just another person. Forget the title. Find a connection and create a bond.
Perhaps examples of where you’ve strategically led clients and their business, and/or instances where you led/won new business or played a role in agency positioning/direction.
I usually talk about revenue growth I’ve generated. And ask questions about what their priorities are.
But not too challenging! 😃
Well it's over now. I think I did well. We'll find out soon. Thanks all!
I might flip it... To answer questions properly usually requires som inputs. I’d ask the CEO to describe the culture (in department or organization as a whole). Ask questions about where the agency is going, what the future has in store. Ask what the main challenges are to the organization, and how he/she sees this role contributing. Etc. Etc. Etc.
Definitely know a lot about the agency and also about the CEO a little, see if you have some shared interests you can talk about. For CEO meetings it’s not about selling yourself they already done the research on your background and skills. It’s about chemistry. Make him feel at ease, be relaxed, get him to laugh, be likable. Instill confidence in yourself and portray yourself as trustworthy. Maybe pique his interest with a cool idea you thought might be good for one of his clients but don’t go into details. Good luck, you don’t need it.
Or her. My last three CEOs were women!
Research her career. I had a Head of AM tell me that he hated it when the interviewee had not researched his career.
When she asks what questions you have, ask her—in very respectful terms—why she’s interviewing you. First, it’s honest, 2nd says something good about her and the shop, and, 3rd, so it right (no pander), should make her feel good.
Ask questions, make sure you cite examples in your career on how you would add value to their company
