Additional Posts in Federal Government Lawyers
Good morning. I am currently a senior associate in BugLaw, and I have applied to several trial attorney jobs in Chicago offices of federal agencies since the start of the pandemic. According to usajobs.gov, my applications to the DOJ and CFTC were “referred,” and my application to the SEC was received and my GS scale verified. But I haven’t received any updates on these applications in over a month. Does anyone here have any insights on these or on federal hiring generally? Thanks!

Will they ask your current employer or people you work with (opposing counsel for example)? I was fortunate in that my agency hr team and background check people let me know when the background check would be "overt" meaning they would start interviewing current coworkers or judges, etc. They don't need to contact your current employer in order for people to find out you're on your way out. But they can let you know at what stage of the check is the point of no return
