I just became a senior - I miss the blissful ignorance I had about audits back when I was a staff 1. How simple auditing used to be. Gone are the days of auditing cash and receivables and dipping to another engagement to audit cash there.
I think general rule is that Senior sucks, and partner knows this. I spoke with a very senior partner about my career, and he was very candid — said he hated senior, kinda liked manager, liked senior manager, loved being partner. I think everyone would agree Senior is worst
I just got promoted to manager and I missed the senior 3 year a lot. I came in Deloitte as S2 so that 6 months were brutal. Then I got used to the work and became so good at it that even my pregnancy went well with the final senior year. I think being a senior still has Manager as the shield but also has some freedom to make decisions. A little bit step up can make you stand out, while people expect manager to know everything

D1 💯
The shielding thing is on point, also I agree managers have the expectation to know everything

I think most people can agree A1 is the most enjoyable
I hear a lot of people say S1 is the hardest but I honestly think M1 is harder. I have heard a lot of partners say the M1 year is the hardest year they did at Deloitte
I think probably when we look back, A1 is easy but I think when I was the first year I felt like an idiot knowing nothing and it’s really a struggle
