My husband just got his CAPM (intended to be first step to PMP), and as we share an office, I got the benefit of hearing his classes. There were some tools that I found useful for sure. I think the question you should ask yourself is that for your role in managing projects in advisory, are you truly creating a different project every time? Like, are you reinventing the wheel with every client, including creating new activity lists, decomposing deliverables and managing and controlling the process with new stakeholders on the regular? If the answer is yes, then also be aware that the PMP process is highly idealized, teaching you tools and techniques that no client would actually be happy to be charged on an hourly basis for. Don’t get me wrong, lots of useful information, but after knowing a little bit more about it, unless you are actually solely serving as a project manager in advisory, such as ERM implementation for clients, I would suggest looking into advancing your subject matter knowledge.
