My son was diagnosed two years ago he is now 4.
He has 21 hours of therapy a week.
He needs a lot of personal time and he has made freat progress. Do your research, be patient, and work with your signidicant other to help give him the best life possible.
I am moving to another project to spend more time with my son. The new project might not be enough but it's a start.
Wish you the best.
“...how to go about it and whether traveling is part of that solution.” FTFY. It think all options have to be open. This job can’t be an axiom
OP, my son has autism and ADHD, but he is still very social in school and with family and friends. We have utilized our local Early Intervention and Intermediate Unit programs that are available at no charge through our county.
If you are in Accenture, there is also free help through a program that provides ABA based training. I can't remember the name offhand.
Who did the diagnosis, was it your primary pediatrician or someone else? Your pediatrician can help with resources as well as any local support or government groups.
Also with an autism diagnosis, I have found that there are many more free resources available to help you and your child. He may even be Medicaid eligible now, and that can go a long way in helping pay Bill's, etc.
I would pay anything to get the help my son needs, but I have no problems using the resources available to me.
Sorry to hear that OP. I guess it would depend where s/he is on the spectrum and your personal situation (e.g. is spouse working, do you have family or other help,...).
But agree with BCG1 that all options should be on the table.
How old is your kid?
Wow. Do you have other kids as well? My buddy had his oldest son diagnosed about a year ago and has completely reconfigured his life. Left his job, joined a bunch of autism advocacy / support groups, moved his son to a special school, etc. He has 2 other kids and is also focusing on making time and space for them. I know it was very tough at first because it’s a life you didn’t choose, but I think he and is wife are finding meaning in it. I’m sure everyone handles this differently, but know there are a lot of other families out there and lots of places to go for support these days.
Thanks everyone.
MD1 he is our first child and we are not planning on other kids knowing that he would need a lot more attention. He had speech delays since he is 2 but we never expected it to be autism and now we are trying to figure out the best possible care for him.
