Don’t even think about smile direct. This is your teeth! Spend the money and get Invisalign. Smile direct is cheap. You don’t even go to an orthodontist. You won’t regret Invisalign.
I did smile direct and had to go to my ortho to get Invisalign to finish the job. Just do the real thing, it’s not even more expensive if you have insurance and you only have to do a couple in person appointments
Spouse works in dentistry and 100% recommends avoiding smile direct. Go to an orthodontist or get Invisalign.
Agreed. Do not cheap out on your teeth. Interview your doctors and look at the cases that they worked. Do not use smile direct
Got Invisalign! Definitely recommend it. If you want to save a little check groupon. A lot of orthos in my area offer some discount. I researched the orthodontist, checked reviews and all the other stuff and bought a groupon that gave me a small discount on my Invisalign. I still paid a decent amount but it’s your teeth and totally worth spending that money.
I have Invisalign for about a year and love it! Agree with other posters, smile direct is cheaper and not as customized as Invisalign. I’ve heard a lot of stories of people using it then going to Invisalign. I do love it but is definitely a process you have to be willing to sign up for such as taking them in and out every time you eat or drink certain beverages. Definitely worth it though
Sounds like a great side benefit to me!
Stay away from Smile Direct. I started with them and went to put in my second week of aligners and they didn’t fit at all. I cancelled immediately and got my money back. Started with Invisalign shortly thereafter. It’s more money and a longer process but so worth it. I have regular check ins with my orthodontist and the whole process gives me way more comfort. I think Smile Direct would have severely screwed up my bite with how short of a plan they had me on. I have a few cosmetic issues that I want to fix but I need bite work as well and my orthodontist said I can’t really do one without the other. I think Smile Direct intended to only straighten my teeth without addressing the bite issues even though I wanted to do both.
Invisalign 100%. Use an orthodontist that utilizes top tech like 3D scanning for making impressions of your teeth.
Don’t use smile direct because you will get what you pay for. It’s good to have an orthodontist you can directly go see when you have issues, etc.
So for me, and I am not pushing SDC or Byte or anything else on anyone, I appreciated the 3D scans at the SDC shop. It was not with an orthodontist, to be clear, but when I had a concern, I sent pictures to the ortho overseeing my case. Then I would go back to the shop for another scan.
For me, I really loved the at-home aspect of it. My teenager also used it successfully, and is now in his retainers. Another child of mine is probably going to need traditional braces because he has a cross-bite. But I was glad to have a convenient method for minor changes for two of us.
Dont do a cheaper service. There are multiple lawsuits and horror stories about smile direct. I’m finishing up Invisalign right now and I’m SO happy I did it. You can split it up into monthly payments if need be. You have your teeth every single day for your entire life - this is where you spend the money.
Doing Invisalign since March and happy with it! It’s a lifestyle adjustment for sure. The ortho visits are pretty spaced out, more so than I expected so it’s not a huge commitment in that sense. Worth the cost IMO, I wouldn’t trust Smile Direct (former ortho assistant myself)
My spouse is a dentist and they have horror stories about smile direct club and those companies. I would definitely spend the extra and go through a dentist with Invisalign!
I did Byte.com and it was perfect for what I needed. Only $1600 and I never saw a dentist. Perfect project to do being at home.

I did smile direct and am happy with my results. My teeth were pretty straight already though, I just had one tooth that was misaligned. I had to wear them for four months.
OP: why not traditional braces?
✅Effective
✅Cost efficient
✅You’ll be wearing a mask
Just a thought!

Braces are cute
I actually love Smile Direct, and had a great experience with it. But I really like the at home model, though you should get the initial impressions done at a shop if you can.
If you broke your arm you wouldn’t order a cast online without seeing a doctor — get Invisalign!
Thank you all so much! I really assumed there wasn’t much difference, so I’m glad I asked.

Do you need to get wisdom teeth out for Invisalign?
Add-on question: I grind my teeth at night and have misalignment from that and various mouthguards. Anyone with this issue have success with Invisalign?

This is my exact issue and Invisalign has done wonders for my bite.
