Looking for my next job, and I’ve come across job postings for the exact same role but with different salaries depending on whether a recruiter is involved or if I apply directly to the company. Does anyone know why that happens?

Because if you work with a recruiter, the company has to pay a commission to them if you’re hired, can be 30% or more. So your first year salary is lower to compensate for that payout.

Yes, what Manager said. Sometimes companies budget differently when they work with recruiters, or recruiters take a cut. I always apply directly when I can since it just seems like a better shot at the full salary.

I am a new (lateral) associate at a small firm where everyone currently works from the office. When I started, I wasn’t told specific firm hours. I’ve tried to figure out when to come and go based upon when the partners arrive and leave, but their schedules are very inconsistent. The other associates don’t have helpful guidance for me. Assuming that if I ask the partners they’ll say to use my discretion, what are reasonable hours to keep?

I'm not hung up on PE/buy side exits, not closed off but nbd. Would be just as happy to stay and make MD (or exit into corp dev if I want an easier life when I'm older)

My dilemma:

I'm at a LMM investment bank. Can get crazy sometimes, but otherwise chill. Typically done around 7-9 pm, had maybe three 1 am nights. Haven't worked a weekend in over a month. Fridays almost always done at 5 pm.

Have an offer at a reputable MM bank but probably pretty sweaty. Worth the move?

Outside of FAANG, what are good large CA-based tech companies that provide good pay, WLB, and culture? DD has great people and WLB, but pay is low and you’re not given the tools and resources to succeed + truly make an impact. Google and Apple are ideal but need backups. Like is Salesforce still good? A company along those lines.

Wondering what people think about my situation. I’ve been offered a role with a company. The job description didn’t mention college degree as a requirement. On my CV I have a section listed as “Education” and under it I have “Business Studies” with the university name and the 3 years that I attended the course (2.5 to be exact). It’s a 4 year degree and under this I have my High School equivalent with the years I attended there. The education wasn’t mentioned in the interviews. Continued below.
