Is there an appropriate way to turn down an assignment because it is non-billable? Two of the partners I work for keep asking me to write client bulletins and articles with them, which is great, but now I’m starting to worry about meeting my billable hours requirement.

I'm a partner with young kids and feel like I'm missing out on too much of their lives. I have my last day at employer A right before thanksgiving and will be covered on their health insurance through 11/30. I am taking some time off before starting a new position with employer B in mid January but their insurance wouldn’t be effective until 2/1. Looking for some advice, planning to buy a house and would like to get a big house with a big yard in a good school district. Currently me and my wife make ~350k a year in NJ. Our budget doesn’t allow for the size/amenities of the house we want in the neighborhood we’re looking to buy. An option could be to wait a couple of years and start the search again when we have more savings. But that means renting till then. Few factors to consider:
