Narrator: they didn’t “see more of them” around Montreal
This didn’t feel genuine to me. Maybe just the way the press release was written? I dunno, if there’s a way to do this without it feeling icky, this wasn’t it.
Hate to break it to you, but donating all the money that went into this to a shelter would do 0 for anyone.
I think I just don’t get it. It’s a big bag so it’s easier for homeless people to pick up cans? That’s it? I guess like functionally that makes sense but doesn’t feel award worthy or all that compelling to me.
And again, will people actually use it? I don’t know.

It's giving 'left handed mango chutney'
It’s giving March to June tbh
In Montreal you see a lot of people collecting cans often carrying these massive plastic bags that are super awkward to carry long distances and are easy to pierce or tear open. This helps them cover more ground and makes the process easier for a behaviour that isn’t going to change.
You don’t see this as much in Toronto, but it’s everywhere in Montreal. So yes, this ACTUALLY helps people. A lot more than a 10 or 15k donation would.

Agreed
Underwhelming on many levels
Let’s be clear. I personally know the creative behind this project. Someone in his own family collects cans every single day. This was made for him. He has spent seven years trying to build the right tool (cheap, tough and visible) and to find the financial means to build it.
Yes, it’s only 25 bags right now. See it like the prototype. This campaign exists to generate donations so he can scale production. The goal has always been growth.
He is already in contact with multiple countries to make sure this initiative can genuinely serve can collectors everywhere. Because this is not a niche issue. In every major city that pays for recycled cans, people rely on this work to survive.
There is nothing about this initiative that is not designed for can collectors. Of course he craft it like a case study because that’s what he do. And guess what, it work.
I know. It’s the internet now. But I got to say that your skepticism isn’t insightful. It’s frankly dismissive…
(Yes, I don’t even care to show that I work with him. Peace)
You’re both correct and being too sensitive.
Good idea or not, 25 bags is nothing.

Agree it’s an awkward idea but I will say can collecting is much more common in Montreal because they have can deposit machines in almost every grocery store.
I can see getting a big durable bag as a big help to someone who makes their living collecting cans.
At least they’re trying to do some good. I don’t think this harms anyone.
Not sure how this is cheaper, easier or more dignified than just housing the homeless but I’m sure Cannes will love it.

Nah they'll see through it
This is common in Montreal. Also the article said the Creative Director has a family member who who collects cans so it feels genuine for me. Im sure Cannes will love it too lol
