Maybe it's a mistake to try and change careers at 50. Put in a ton of resumes in the last month in multiple fields. I need training on any job I apply for but I believe at my age not alot af companies are willing to train me.

Age is just a number but in this time period your race will be held against you in certain states. I’m 58 and I’ve gotten jobs and job offers. Just have something to offer when you apply and remember fake it til you make it.

Right now we are going through both a bad job market and global economy.
Sadly, it seems and I even heard a recruiter mention that companies now are looking at employees as transactional and in a "What can you do for me NOW?" way rather than giving people training and time.
I am 55 and while I am still looking at staying in a customer service role, I am open to and applying for many different industries.
I would be looking for something that you have transferable skills for.
What career are you currently in and what are you trying to pivot into?
When applying for jobs you also need to make sure your resume can get past the AI / ATS that companies are now using.

like

I agree, it’s very transactional and I am in my 30’s and I am not getting hired either , they just want really specific skill all the time 100% match, even if we don’t have last 2% of the skill they need we are out, and the roles are not filled for months as they keep looking for some star performers and wait for some special person to take up the job.
another thing is every industry is moving into something new so quickly that they themselves don’t know how to do things and are expecting new hire to take over and teach them, hence nobody is ready to train coz they don’t know.

Is your resume aging you?

Very good point. Thank you

Anytime you make a major career pivot into a role you don’t have experience in, You’re starting back at level one. The problem is entry-level roles, in almost every field are becoming fewer and far between because of AI. Is it possible to go back to school or get some training to help boost your résumé stats?

like

If you can land interviews, it means that those companies rightly recognise transferable skills. You should emphasise that you are eager to learn whatever skill gap you have to help the company achieve its goals. Growth mindset is extremely important nowadays where the job market is so transitional.

I just started with a company as an HR Generalist. Within the 3 weeks of being there, my boss’s boss left, and today I found out my boss gave notice. HR is not valued at the company and it’s disheartening to know I was hired into a mess. I am now actively looking but how do I explain to other employers why I am actively looking and what do I put on my resume? I have never had to deal with this before.

Tough time getting past final step: I’ve been trying to make a career shift for 10 months now and continue to get rejected at the last step. Im confident in the value I can provide and do well at presenting it. However, once it’s comes down to me and 1-2 other candidates, I repeatedly have been turned down for the person who has more relevant experience as they’re a safer bet for the employer. Would love advice from anyone who’s dealt with this before. It’s tough to get them to take a risk on me

Why is education deemed more valuable on a pay scale than experience? Employers will pay someone with a degree and no experience a greater salary, than someone who has exhibited the experience. Understanding that the degreed person committed to school and finished, yet that doesn't diminish what the not degreed has committed to and accomplished in their careers. This has to stop!

Hi all, looking for advice.

I'm a technical writer with background in the hardware and healthcare industry. What would be a better option for me, pivoting into software tech writing or project management.

Which one pays better/is better (any advice appreciated, must be fully remote role)

If software tech writing, does anyone have advice on how to break into a role or learn what it takes to become one?

For PM, I got a cert (not PMP) and am trying to decide which of these two I go with.
