Maybe it's just me hitting a wall after four busy seasons, but I'm really struggling to see the logic in these required long hours. I feel like my brain checks out after about eight hours a day, and those extra hours just feel like a waste of time and energy. Does anyone else question if this is truly the most effective way to manage the workload, or are we just going through the motions?

Yes for sure. This is why I left PA after my 5th season, 14 years ago. I'm still with my same employer in industry. Best decision I could have made.

It is a huge grind, but after that it is back to normal work. I don’t want to say you get used to it, but it should get a little easier in terms of expectations. I hit a wall more around mid March, and then come back from that to finish April strong. It’s been crazy the past couple weeks but the end is in sight!

You make a pretty good point, I tend not to believe there's anyone who can work ridiculous hours and not have a problem with the quality of the work. But despite that belief, there do seem to be people who can just power through no matter what. For whatever reason, they're wired in such a way that they can just maintain enough concentration to work effectively and shake off fatigue.

I don’t know I’ve always just accepted. This was the life I chose and that long hours and being dead to the world mentally during the latter months of business season was normal not to say I wouldn’t like to get some more rest during busy season and I just don’t expect.

Hey all,
Im looking to pivot my career from industrial design to product design or product management.
At the moment i manage a team of 5 industrial designers for b2b sustainable fashion and retail interiors. The methodologies and processes are quite similar between physical and digital design so i feel i should not start from a junior position, however my portfolio contains only physical. Did anybody else make a similar career switch? Any advice for switching to product is welcome. Thanks!

What does a person do who doesn’t find any industry accounting jobs interesting? I’ve been trying to leave for 3-4 years and the only thing that interests me is people focused roles such as sales. Public accounting is a decent spot for me but I’m wanting a more consistent schedule of 40-50 and the self centered/dog eat dog culture of my firm continues to crush my soul more and more the longer I stay.
