As an ACD/copy I can do the job of 4 junior teams in less time and without acting “precious” ; )
Wanting to go full time if you’re looking…
Is this problem specific to one team or something you feel about all of your teams?
If it’s about one team, they could be a holes. But you still have a responsibility to give them actionable feedback - both on their work and their performance - and guide them along the way. If they refuse to take it, then document it and use it as a path toward managing them out.
If you feel this about all of your teams, then you’re likely the common denominator. Your approach could be fueling this. Remember, being a manager ISN’T ABOUT YOU. It’s about pushing the client, the work and the teams to all get better.
It’s a good bet there is actually just one person on that one team who is spreading that toxicity to the rest. If you can identify that one person and work with them, make them your ally, it might go a long way to solving your issue.
That’s your problem to fix friendo.
👀
The feeling is likely mutual
Probably, sucks for them tho!

I’m working with some great creatives, and i’m working with some bad creatives. Somehow the bad creatives are the biggest egos and they bring the least to the table.
I don’t hate my team but it is frustrating how some are unwilling to evolve. They’ve been in their roles for a long time and it’s hard to move the needle so I’m working with what I’ve got and trying to get them to see the light.
Get rid of them and move on. The entitlement factor and ingrained self importance is hard to cure.
I love my team…except one guy. The equivalent of a bad standup comedian who thinks they kill. Very average copywriter, has one and a half “voices” they write in. So we shuffled teams and I sent him to a CD who likes the guy and can maybe unlock something i couldn’t. I got a true junior back in the trade and our chemistry is better and she wants to get better.
What did they do now, CD!?
The old “they should work for me and not the other way around perspective” eh? Good luck with that!
Unlike nearly everyone else that complains about their team on here, you actually have the power to change things.
So the question is: What’s the specific problem and what are you doing to fix it?
wait can you be more specific about what they’re doing to irk you? Not trying to be this person to my CD
Of course! It’s mostly having this 1:1 mindset where they think my feedback is suggestions and they will push back on it like… dawg this was not a discussion. This one dude just simply didn’t edit the work because he thought my notes were not aligned with what he envisioned for the work.
(His fucking work sucks, I’m open to suggestions and always having them fight for their ideas, but this is just coming from a shitty ego)
Go full Louis Litt on their asses
not a direct report thankfully but one jr team on the same account are such ass kissers, I throw up in my mouth every time one of them speaks. Idk why they feel the need to lay it on so thick
