It feels different to be different. Not different to be better.
I haven't seen the ads but think with all the unique experiences Vegas offers, it is both more true and more compelling than the old line ever was.
Apparently the new ad was supposed to air during the Grammys but they pulled it following Kobe’s death. Not sure when the ad will debut now. I agree that it’d be helpful to see it before coming to a conclusion
Why did they get rid of the old one? It’s hard to think of more iconic slogan that’s similarly worked its way into everyday language.
I'm not a fan to be honest. The new slogan sounds more applicable to New York than Vegas. Additionally, there is a lack of name recognition. The name Vegas should be in the slogan, so it is able to stand alone. It loses the seductive/controversial tone that makes the Vegas brand alluring and aspirational.
“Vegas” wasn’t in the old one. It was always, “What happens here, stays here.”
Come up with something new don’t bastardize something old.

“Do something new” is in many ways quite lazy. It’s much more creative to do something new *within* the constraints of the existing brand than it is to start fresh.
It’s also more effective because it draws on years’ worth of consumers’ memories of what the brand stands for, meaning that they don’t have to work as hard to recognize, recall, and buy the brand.
It’s more focused on Vegas than on why people go there. And it leaves no room for the imagination. I’m guessing someone with an MBA took over.
Strategy is showing. Not in a good way. Every place is unique. Why care?
The old one made the town feel wild and fun, like anything could happen. It was emotional. This one feels functional.
