I made the cross country move last year and used zippy shell. Thousands cheaper than pods.
Interoffice mail all your furniture
Sell all the furniture, not worth the hassle and cost. I did it (relocated east from west near client site) and flew 3 suitcases each week, was done with my move in 4 R/T
Just did this 2 months ago, good luck OP!! Definitely daunting (and I had a broken hand during it all) but very happily settled in my new place :)
I did a UBox from uhaul. Fairly easy and affordable. You fill the shipping crate and they drop off at new home.
Look into ABF upack
Rebuy the furniture and fly delta. If you're spg platinum you get free checked bag, then you get 1 for status, and open their card and that's three checked plus a carry on. I did two trips like this from NYC to SF and that was all of my stuff.
Burn your current place down, collect the insurance money, move, buy new shit.
Thanks y'all!
And I alt traveled so the plane rides were paid for.
Alternatively, fly virgin and its only $25 per bag up to 10 bags. Taken all together the cross country flights plus baggage fees if necessary is still cheaper than a moving company (unless you wanna drive)
Thanks @d4, I'm delta platinum so I get the 3 free checked bags. Will definitely be taking advantage...Did you find that you got a decent enough return on resell to make selling and rebuying a cheaper option than moving?
I made whoever took over my lease be required to buy all the furniture (50-60% off the list price). Then ended up rebuying the same stuff. My stuff was IKEA though so around 1.1K total.
Door to door movers is another good pod alternative
