I think unfortunately it's heavily influenced by your manager and the group you are in. Example: the firm can have a standout year but you're not in a front office/producing role so you won't be rewarded the same as someone in front of clients/bringing in $.
What team are you on?
That sucks. We have a convoluted system where your bonus has three distinct pieces. Company, Organization, and individual. On my team we hit stretch goals for both Company and Organization which meant 150% attainment. My individual ranking was 140%. Very good year for me.
A good friend of mine, doing the EXACT SAME JOB in a different vertical got the company 150% but 0% for Org and only 75% of individual. This is a guy I go to for help when I’m lost.
The problem with our system is that company metrics are super transparent. We either did or didn’t hit our big top and bottom line numbers. Org metrics are often a mystery unless you go out of your way to pull the right reports, assuming you have access to individual is one where I feel most people should have at least an idea of what’s coming.
I don't really think so. I think they have already decided everybody's bonus before self-evaluations even start. In fact, my manager told me as much.
The only time we get to have any input on what kind of year we’ve had is when we’re accepting our bonus letter in Workday. The thing with that is that if someone has a wide variation between their view and that of their management, they likely have suspect management.
In some organizations it's fairly transparent. Still, it's a bonus, and you can't count on what it's going to be until you know for sure. If your organization aligns it to company performance, you probably should have been expecting it to come in low.
