My company is forcing me to pay bond amount for breaking service agreement. But I had to quit due to my father's medical issues. I am not even getting paid during my notice period. Is this even legal?, what should I suppose to do?

I just offered an intern a full time position as an account coordinator with a starting salary of $50k. They have only been an intern for 2 months and have no prior experience. They acted like $50k was a huge slap in the face. Am I crazy for thinking $50k is reasonable for entry level in Toronto? Is it common to negotiate software engineer salary at smaller companies? I know it’s common at FAANG, but what about for companies with around 200 engineers?
