In a toxic place... You plan to give them an opportunity to be more toxic to you since you are leaving anyway.
Tell no one until you have offer in hand. Then you could give 2 weeks notice if you really want to maintain your relationships.
Never tell them until you have a written offer. Mentally turn in your two weeks notice now. Whatever task you are working on at 4 pm becomes tomorrow’s problem. Do not start work before 8 am. Take time from 4-5pm to think about job leads.
While I appreciate that you want to do the right thing, the toxic environment comment has me concerned. I would suggest you let your manager know right after you have a firm offer in hand. You can still give the necessary 2 weeks notice and help them transition work accordingly. I don't see any benefit to letting them know anything until such time as you have a firm offer that you have accepted.
I agree with the above posts. Wait until you have accepted an offer and have a start date at your new job. If you tell them now, they will most likely let you go and/or make your life miserable for wanting to leave . When you resign they can still have you leave early so have your ducks in order (money, finances, etc)
I even waited until my background check was done to give my notice.
Some background checks don’t clear until well into your employment. Just the offer in hand is sufficient unless you are hiding something
I admire that you’re thinking about your team, but in this kind of culture, I’d be cautious. Unless you trust your manager not to retaliate, I’d wait until you’ve accepted an offer. You can always work hard during your notice period to wrap up what you can.
Don't do it until the new job is solid. I had a solid job offer gave my 2 weeks. They literally ask me to leave the following day after I brought in my remote technology stuff
