My students create interactive notebooks. They create a table of contents and add to it with every new topic. Diagrams and charts enhance the notes. The back of the notebook is used for smart starts/exit tickets. Academic support students and those who struggle receive a packet. I've used this style for the past 3 years. The best part is when my students visit while in high school and tell me how much they reference their 8th grade science notebook!
I do unit packets, so I don’t have to make copies all unit. In the unit packet has notes and hw/cw and labs.
In their comp book I do Bell Work/Exit Tickets.
I use OneNote from Microsoft
I use interactive notebooks! I used to do binders but kids always lost/broke them. I have alumni come back and tell me how useful it was to have a way to find all their notes
I use a binder specific color. Each divider is a unit we will cover this year. I also use the Cornell Note taking system. Each note sheet goes in the binder. The students are required to put their binder in the upper right corner of their desk for an easy visual of coming to class prepared. I allow them to use their binders for tests so they have an incentive to keep it up to date and organized.
I use bound heavy duty composition books. The kids draw and explain the concepts we investigate.
I'm a fan of using composition type bound notebooks, but I believe the notebooks should be for the kids purpose not just a compliance type thing. I think kids should be investigating things and figuring things out and not doing worksheets.
