My firm pays contract partners using a K-1. Is that normal? The taxes are crazy - we have offices in so many states and with the cap on the SALT deduction it is awful. Also do firms provide matching 401k for contract partners? I am at an Amlaw 200 firm (not Biglaw) for comparison purposes. I’m not trying to compare to the really high end firms. Just trying to figure out if I’m getting as raw a deal as it seems.

Do bank managers/loan officers at local branches have any sway in approving loans? I live in a small Midwest town would it be better to go to my local bank and see if people I know there can get a better rate etc on an auto loan?

I am working with a loan agent for a mortgage account. Per the agent, I will get a credit of 1000$ once I open the checking account. It should cover the loan application fee and commitment fee. (1100$)
Here’s the catch — the account has a 24$ monthly maintenance fee. And that gets waived with the mortgage.
