My leave (as caregiver) is coming to a close and I am beginning to realize that I don't want to return to my full time agency job where the culture is toxic, the pay is severely below market value, and there are no growth opportunities. Last week the thought of going back resulted in a pretty anxiety-ridden day. I am great at my job but feel I have been taken advantage of, and my confidence is shot. I am stuck in IR purgatory. I hate IR. I started off my career ten years ago as a deal guy. Then my firm asked me to shoulder IR responsibilities as well. Now I am finding each job I change to promise “you will do both IR and deals” but it’s always a lie. The firms just want a fundraiser. Deal people are more plentiful. How do I get out of this trap?
