Is he definitely lying though? Talking to coworkers or your family isn’t a crime
I talk to coworkers all the time, and also work late and on the weekends, and get my stuff done
You are right. I know all this because he always sent me his work to finish while he chill. I'm not saying there is something wrong with talking with coworkers or your family, but doesn't that contradict what you keep saying in the meetings that you are "so busy."
You should leave for a more meritocratic workplace where you can advance. Don't worry so much about him, he's a loser. Worry about yourself and how you're going to win.
Thanks, VP. But looking at jobs and their online website, how do you know if their culture is meritocratic without experiencing it? I'm new on the field, so I don't have much experience identifying red flags yet. I appreciate your response!
Ignore it. Focus on your own business and what you can control.
Thank you! I will try that. It is hard when I see someone saying something, and I know he is lying and is ok with it. But you are right. Maybe I should focus on myself!
Tough spot. I've experienced the same with my bosses in the past. Unfortunately, as an associate, I didn't have much room to complain. It's almost expected that we will take on the actual grunt work that needs to get done and management will coast.
I'm in the same boat. I don't feel like I have a lot of room to complain, but I think it is unfair and not an example of a well-run company.
I really think you just have to let it go bc you're not going to win in this situation, unfortunately. His work will show that he's not getting it done if he is not.
I would be ok with it, but I feel it is not sustainable. In the end, he takes most of the credit...
Unless you want to find another job, the above comments are right. There's really nothing you can do about it. Unfortunately, that is a perk of his job that he can delegate his work and it's to you. Hang in there
Thanks! Now I know how I won't want to be as a manger... But yes, I will hang here until I find something better.
Assert your boundaries. Tell them you already have things on your plate. If they want to keep doing so, negotiate for a pay raise, and when asked why, tell them the truth. You can't keep letting them walk all over you and take credit for your work.
You can be upset for this. Clearly this guy doesn't have his priorities straight and from your description, it doesn't sound like he'd be much fun or useful to work for.
Go to his immediate supervisor. Or maybe to HR. I can already sense your struggle with that kind of manager.
