My only daughter is graduating from college this spring, and I want to get her a nice, dependable car as a graduation gift since she'll be driving quite a bit. (Especially 500+ miles to grad school in the fall). I'm considering the Volvo XC40, Audi A3, and Lexus UX. I'm open to suggestions - what would you recommend?

Those are all very nice. I would consider a loaded Subaru as well.

Do you mean Audi Q3 instead of A3? If the criteria is small suv, I’d say Honda CRV (Honda interior 👍) and Toyota rav4

When you say dependable, I don’t think luxury cars at all. If she were to ever have a problem, she’s going to be stuck holding the bag with a huge repair bill from those manufactures.

If you like the Audi, you could seriously consider the VW alternative. Very similar vehicles that share lots of parts but one is considerably cheaper to maintain and insure.

That’s such an exciting gift, and she’s going to love it! If you’re looking for a dependable, nice ride, I always think of Hondas. They have some great options, plus they're a great value for the money you'll spend.

Based on JD Power dependability report, can’t go wrong with a Toyota or Lexus.

I'd go Hyundai sonata. I have a 2010 that's still going strong and very few repairs.

toyota corolla

Don’t get the Audi. I have had three new Audis, all built after 2018. All have had some small annoying issues (sensitive tire pressure readings, hard to reach battery, etc) and the recent Q7 has been a nightmare. Stick with Japanese brands. Why not a Prius, CRV, Camry, etc.?

Lexus UX or Outback

Lexus. Will be a drama free ownership experience and hold value better than the others should she decide to trade up in a few years.

I test drove a 2017 330 gt, got an offer for around 28K. I need to fit 2 child seats and don’t want to get an SUV. It’s surprisingly roomy inside. Asking for the pros here for any insights or things to be aware of before I pull the trigger. My first german car upgrading from an accord.

Someone please tell me that I can get a rear facing child seat in the back of a mustang… otherwise it looks like I’ll have to buy a new family car to drive the little one around (wife doesn’t drive unfortunately).

Could be a good excuse to get a Taycan but was hoping I could just stick with my mustang. We said next car will be an EV didn’t think it would be so soon though!

Alright auto fishes, I’m in the market for a entry level luxury car. Open to used or a lease. I don’t plan to use it as a daily driver, live in an HCOL. Only restriction is that I’d like to keep my monthly costs at no more than $600-$700/month (including insurance, financing / fees, etc; have a parking spot already). Doesn’t have to be a European badge. Thoughts?
