Here’s the question: You are a Project Manager on a time-sensitive project. Although the executive team has been clear on their timeline expectations, you discover that your project team does not find the timeline reasonable. What steps would you take to get the situation resolved and the project moving forward?
Here’s my response: My thoughts is to first talk to the project team again and seeing if there are any flexibility in each of the project process that can be push a little more to make the executive timeline. I would also asked the project team for any resources or support they need in order to expedite the timeline to meet the executives dates. If the answer is still no, then I would set up a time to talk with the executive team. I would acknowledge the time sensitivity of the project and their timeline expectations but explain that the project team will unfortunately not be able to deliver the project on their expected date and explain the reasons why. I’ll then provide the new timeline that the project team has propose.
Personally you’re response sounds like the right way to go about it. Definitely make sure you get all the needed information from the project team and approach the executive with only the facts and the proposal so there doesn’t need to be a back and forth. I think all you really have to do now is clean up your response so it doesn’t contain any grammatical errors.
Thank you!
