I see two options: negotiate the heck out of it, don’t hold back to see how much power you really have. If the offer is good maybe. Your other option (if you found a good enough job already) is to maintain that distance and not return.
A lot of people get walked out after being laid off, so I wouldn't consider that a grave insult. It's just typical. If you liked the work and they make you a good offer, you should consider it. It all comes down to whatever else you have going on. If you need a job, it's better to have an income than to be unemployed.
Yikes, I don't know that I would want to go back. Who is to say you don't go back and then have the same thing happen again. I wouldn't go back unless I absolutely needed to.
