Navigate “soft” mat leave retaliation?

Before leave, I led a full marketing function, managed a team, and was up for promotion. During leave, my cover blocked promotion, took over, and now my manager.

Now, my title/pay are unchanged, but my scope, decision rights, and influence are significantly reduced. My role feels like an empty shell.

I’m leaning toward leaving, but feel it doesn’t address the issue for other moms.

Has anyone navigated something similar or have any advice?

I experienced something somewhat similar. I got pregnant and used to lead the entire finance and treasury department. After I disclosed I was pregnant they created and hired a role over me and my leadership responsibilities disappeared leading up to my leave. While I was on leave they restructured the department and my role disappeared. I found a much better job while I was on leave and put in my two weeks notice my first day back from leave so I never got to experience what it would have been like but I’m still really salty about the whole thing even though it worked out for me. It created an extremely stressful environment for me. I decided against suing them because I found another job and I didn’t want my name associated with an employer lawsuit. But many days I wish I had pursued it, they absolutely deserved and I took the cowardly way out.

Thank you for sharing! Can totally relate to the stress of the situation and finding a new job during mat leave. I finally found a new job 2 months after returning from mat leave.

Although I may not sue them, I consider I should get a lawyer to send a demand letter. For the worst case, even without getting any severance package, it would at least raise awareness from HR and leadership that such retaliation is borderline illegal.

Additional Posts in We're Pregnant!

Trying to set family expectations and would love thoughts on 2 things. 1. How long after baby will I be ready for visitors beyond our parents? I’m thinking a few weeks. 2. Our 3 grandmothers are 1-3 hour flights away (3 diff places) and cannot travel. When will we be ready to take baby to see them? I’m thinking 4-6 months but that would also be flu/RSV season. Can’t predict the future but family is already talking about trips and I want to set expectations and do what is best for baby. TIA!!

We were not trying to conceive. And I was drinking alcohol like twice a week.
Now I missed my period and pregnant. I am panicking a lot, not sure if I want a baby right now. Definitely i cant deal with pregnancy constantly knowing how much u drinking could have affected the fetus and if i could ever endure the consequences it would bring upon the baby
Help me understand if my baby will be fine or not.

Last night I went over to my friends house (she has 2 kids, 2 and 4 yo). She and her husband were asking me about my pregnancy and planning. And were asking what I’ve prepped to date. I’m only 13w2 days so I think it’s way to early for buying stuff, but I did mention we hired a baby nurse for when the baby comes. My friend completely berated me, short of calling me a bad mom already, saying “what is she going to do all day? Don’t you want to bond with your child?”. I’m so upset by this.

Trigger: rare illness post birth

Just sharing that I was diagnosed with postpartum preeclampsia 3 days after giving birth despite not having risk factors or preeclampsia in my pregnancy. Sharing as I had absolutely no idea about this illness.

Main things to do are check your BP everyday at least the first ten days after you give birth, and go to hospital if it's very high (over 160/110). If you get severe headache or stomach ache then also be vigilant.

Happy to answer any questions!

I just started a new job 2 months ago, benefits and PTO don’t start until 90 days in so I still have a month before I can take off any time, and today found out my company doesn’t offer paid maternity leave.
I’m really struggling handling the symptoms and maintaining my full time job. Thinking about looking for a part time job to have more time to myself through the pregnancy since I won’t be getting a paid leave anyways, but lost on where to start looking. Any recommendations?
