Retail is like the mail. Nor rain, sleet, or snow! Many times I get to work in clear weather and leave in a white out blizzard. I didn’t know I was signing up to be a therapist. That’s probably the biggest one nobody talks about in the interview.
Always working around the holidays. Not that I wasn't aware stores don't close just because it's Christmas Eve, I just never thought that this was what I'd be doing long term. Took a job as a stocker on a whim thinking I'd find something else soon enough, and then it just sort of became my career without me ever feeling like I'd signed up for one.
No one warns you how much emotional labor you sign up for. I knew I’d be on my feet. I didn’t realize I’d be therapist, security, and weather warrior all at once.
Rising Star
I kind of knew that I’d be working days that everyone else head off, like a snow day or a holiday or weekends. What I cannot get used to is the constant long days and ever changing schedule.
