NY attorneys- do you need to renew your registration for federal courts similar to every 2 years for state courts? Can’t find any info for EDNY, WDNY, or SDNY. NDNY appears to be every 2 years.

I don’t think so for EDNY or SDNY, but yes for the 2nd Circuit

like

Second Circuit is every five years, and has an application that has to be submitted during a specific time frame. Not sure if you get reminded by Pacer. Mine is up this fall for the first time, and the window to do it opens next month. Someone at my old firm never remembered to renew his.

NDNY renews every two years. WDNY does not have a regular registration.

like

NDNY does firmwide renewals, so you may never see it. I used to handle this at my old firm, and they were done a few months before the notifications went out individually.

Varies from court to court. I think district courts are every 5 years and circuit courts may be the same, or could be every 2. But once you’re admitted and have a Pacer account you’ll get reminders—just remember to update your email address if you switch firms.

I am a new (lateral) associate at a small firm where everyone currently works from the office. When I started, I wasn’t told specific firm hours. I’ve tried to figure out when to come and go based upon when the partners arrive and leave, but their schedules are very inconsistent. The other associates don’t have helpful guidance for me. Assuming that if I ask the partners they’ll say to use my discretion, what are reasonable hours to keep?

If you use the pomodoro method for time focus and tracking, do you bill in those increments or just keep your billablr timer going the whole time? For example, I work in 25 minute increments for large projects then I get a break. Do I bill .5 for that increment and restart my billing or keep my billing continuously going thereby not rounding up for those 5 min? I have just kept my timer going.

Hi new here. Idk what my value is and if I’m getting paid an amount that reflects my hard work. I am a paralegal for a small law firm (family and immigration) w only 1 attorney. I have about 20 files or more in my rotation at a time. I work on various types of cases at once. Some are simple, others are extensive. I feel like it’s very unstructured and one of the managers micromanages. It’s like every man for himself. Take home pay is $50k. I am working on my bachelors deg. Do I get paid enough?
