Absolutely
A lot of pop leadership books often tread in that narrow gallery of broad generalizations, some pop culture science and lots of anecdotes. This leads to a lot of these types of books being a fairly meh experience for people especially those who might prefer books that are slightly more science heavy (for eg Nudge) or have better written anecdotes (for eg Shoe Dog). Pop leadership books do end up becoming a little preachy, pedantic and banal when they aren't able to strike a great balance in those parameters
It's about accepting accountability for one's circumstances in life and realizing that we have the power to control and change that which is in our realm of control and influence.
A lot of guys want to better themselves, so I'd venture to guess they see it as a form of inspiration.
Different people get different things from books. As much as you learn from the book you learn about the person recommending it.
