I’d suggest reading Emotional Intelligence, Trillion Dollar Coach, Leaders Eat Last, and How to Win Friends and Influence People.

I assume your soft skill development is for becoming a better leader (good followship can also be leadership); in which case I like Herminia Ibarra's books - act like a leader, think like a leader was interesting. I've heard good things about leaders ear last as well.

I agree with one of Dr. Ibarra's points in that leadership is something that often requires experience. In lieu of experience you should spend time talking to, observing, and listening to good leaders then trialing out your own leadership style.

Soft skills often sre associated with care and trust. Listening to people, communicating their concerns to show you're listening, co-creating with people - it's all under caring, humility, and trust. If you care, you develop trust. And if you gut check your own assumptions before speaking and think about alternative points of view, it shows you care and people will follow or listen to you. Also, don't waste people's time.

Got offered 115K with 25-30% bonus for a fund accountant role with 3 years of public experience. Is that normal? Seems like really high. I live in NY to clarify. Combination of Big 4 and midsize experience. What’s the normal salary range for ppl in that range?

Hey folks. Question for the majority of us still under the big 3 holding co’s...are raises a thing anymore? I’ve been at my (smaller) agency almost 5yrs and got one raise (a nice $12k bump) during that time—is that sufficient? Is one increase in that span normal? I also recognize being somewhere 5 years is rare these days. The honeymoon period at any agency seems to be 2.5—3yrs before bolting. Not complaining, just asking. Have y’all been getting raises/bumps in any kind of regular cycle? Thx.

I didn't apply for a job that would have set me up for the future in the government. I wouldn't have to worry about money or future jobs. My boss had just given me a small pay rise and talked up the future and so I felt good. I now severely regret not applying for the job and cannot stop thinking about it to the point of insomnia and depression. I even contacted the employer but too late. It's a small town and rarely anything comes up. I hate myself and feel like I failed my family. :(

I love teaching art but am having to teach remotely to 1150 kids, k - 5. Have about 54 amazing elementary art teachers in my district that share SO much! I could retire (34 yrs), but just don’t want to because I love what I do! Feeling like my students aren’t getting what they should because I am struggling with Zoom, Microsoft, safe YouTube, bitmoji, embedding, downloads, editing, etc. Anyone else feeling this way?

Do you buy all the books ? I used to read only physical books. Audible books are not appealing to me cos I have hearing issues. Please provide me tips / pointers. TIA
