Hey all - how do you guys sell or lead things you aren’t genuine believing in? It’s almost like a fake it till you make it? I find it difficult to be behind a product or technology I don’t understand enough of or believe and I previously used to work in sales. Also any books/techniques which help. I am often too genuine or objective.

I believe improving one’s sales conversion rate is something everyone want to improve but no one wants to admit they would like to work it. Funny how lawyers will spend thousands on seminars to improve trial skills. But this topic is not discussed in our profession. I have read books in sales. But am unable to find any for lawyers. I want convert every lead I can. Does anyone have tips, books, cle’s or studied this topic?

I lead a team of women (ranging from 2-8 years into their careers) and want to advocate for their career growth with management. I’ve made the case for promotions and raises (have been pushing for this for months and keep being told “soon”—but I won’t give up), but I also want to try smaller asks and would love suggestions. Are there any books, one-off classes/trainings, virtual events, memberships, etc. that you’d recommend? Thank you!

Ladies, need some advice. I am in Scrum Master role for tech team that is more senior engineers and architects. Feeling very out of the loop as I am not involved in all the discussions and then asked for progress on items from leaders and that am I not aware of..
the team gets Ad hoc requests so new items come up after that stand up and SM/ M will ping folks directly. Feeling like I have become an assistant who updates tickets and books meetings..

Cisco

Pros:

- fairly decent place to work (from someone who worked with the Vancouver and San Jose offices). never met a blue badger (permanent employee) who had awful things to say.

- Ashley Goodall (their SVP, Methods & Intelligence) co-authored a brilliant book on leadership and people management called “Nine Lies About Work” that makes me believe they can be an awesome place to work

Cons:

- red badgers had low morale since they’re contract workers and can be terminated at any time

Thought experiment for you, fishies.

We all love to hate on billable hours. What’s a real, feasible alternative???

Small agency owner 🙋🏻‍♂️ I’ve wracked my brain and have 3 biz model options, none great:

Billable hrs: Generally accepted. We all know the downsides.

Pay4performance: Big upside potential, tons of risks.

Project pricing: Cloak for billable hours. You have to estimate project cost with something.

Who’s thought of a better approach??? Genuinely curious if there is one.

Thoughts on giving your two + weeks notice after you’ve been told you’re receiving a bonus (and it would actually be paid while you’re still at your current firm just after you’ve told them you’re leaving)? Or does everyone just wait until their bonus actually hits their bank account? Being able to give my two weeks early/mid December would be a lot better for me but don’t want to jeopardize not getting my bonus (which comes usually 3rd week of December).
