Look my foot off the gas the last 3 years before partner and still made it. It’s all about timing and rank (assuming you have the chops.
But nobody just hands you partner....you need someone in your corner lobbying for you, right?
I made partner within audit in a little over 10 years. You obviously need to be strong in all aspects of executing engagements just to be in the conversation. Luck and timing is part of it, but you also need to be both strongly supported by the influential/sponsoring partner(s) and have a proven track record that you can originate/win new work. Having these attributes changes the conversation from “if” to “when”. (No ragrets. Not even a single letter.)
What year?
If you want meaningful data you may want people to include when it happened and size of firm. Smaller firms may be different but at B4 most have introduced the managing director level so it takes longer then it did years ago when you would go from senior manager to partner.
12 years to partner 10 at a big 4, then two at a middle market (top 30 firm) to make partner.
no ragrets!! It's been great and i love my job! Audit by the way!
12 years to Partner in B4. It is not for everyone, but I enjoy what I do very much and have no regrets. Have never taken my foot off the gas, it just isn’t who I am. But that said, I have never been a conformist , which is probably why I like what I do so much.
Made Partner in 12 years - audit. Best day of my life being told I made Partner. Worked like a dog for 30 years. Found my work fulfilling and enjoyed my teams. No regrets.
