Usually comes up during background checks when working for financial institutions/firms....sounds like you'll be fine.
I went through bankruptcy while there. No issues. I left to go to a competitor when it was still on my record and didn’t matter.
What is your role?
Typically your credit score is only taken into account if you have a financial role that involves clearance to authorize payments. If you’re purely technical, this should not be an issue unless you have access to financial data/resources. If you don’t have any major financial issues (defaults, bankruptcies), you’ll be fine.
I’ve never been asked to provide my credit score for a role. I guess it may come up when they do a background check? I’m curious to hear what others have to say. I didn’t think companies looked at credit unless you were up for a C-suite role or possibly in finance.
Every company and specific roles in will have different policies. When I started at my current company, they basically said as long as you don’t have any financial crimes, you are good to go! But this isn’t a c-level or anything like that position. Also the company is on the smaller size.
Very curious to hear what if there are defaults… does this affect hiring chances?
Very much so. I’ve seen it happen to a buddy who got a job offer rescinded after a medical bill he refused to pay (he was trying to fight it.) went to collections and crushed his credit score. Job offer was revoked after that. It was a very high paying role too, $350k a year or so.
Employer credit checks do not include your score.
It can be part of your background check.
