I’ve never heard of anyone in the ad industry only quitting via letter. Be an adult and schedule a meeting with your manager(s). They’ll probably ask you to send you an email recapping.
Use this card
I'd speak with your direct manager. Let them know you've decided to take a new opportunity and ask how to best help transition. They should take care of the rest. Good luck!
SS1 FTW. This is a small industry with great long term memory. Best to exit on the high road.
The best way is to act as if you would like to come back some time in the future. Treat them respectfully. Thank them for the opportunity.
Just another day at MRM, best of luck to you OP🍀
Walk over gracefully and leave the letter on the person’s desk.
(Also never put in writing where you are going).
Don’t leave us :(
Went over just fine, thanks for the advice fish fam!
“I was offered a great opportunity at [xx company] and I’ve decided to take it. My last day will be [xx]. I appreciate your understanding as well as the experiences I’ve had here.”
Then let them respond
Yeah you don’t have to tell them where you are going. Also yes - write a letter, print it out, and hand it to your manager. And be polite even if you hate them.
ACD1- Just curious, why should you never put in writing where you are going?
☝️ there just isn’t a need to tell them and if you have any “enemies” at your current agency w/ contacts at your new place, it could cause problems for you. I know someone who once had an offer almost get reneged b/c of such a situation
Give notice face to face and have a letter ready to hand over right after - your manager will need something in writing for HR.
And let the fishies know what position is opening up? Too close to home? Lols.
Roll in wearing a cape and riding a tiger during morning status and announce you're out
Also make it clear (if it's true) that you aren't interested in a counter. Let them know you've accepted the other offer.
