Do it
Fuck it
Always put the best possible version of the work in your book.
It’s virtually certain that no one will notice or care if it didn’t run as shown.
Produced work demonstrates that you know how the game is played. But work that demonstrates how you solve a creative problem when you can take a full swing belongs in your book. And that includes not only the originals of ideas that got watered down by the client but pure spec work too. Any CD that turns their nose up at that can go f*** themselves.
Make the best thing you can possibly make for your portfolio
So you’re saying put it in the way me and my CD would have done it if we were the clients?
When I’m reviewing books I’d rather see work you like than work the clients ran and you only kinda like. It shows your ability to curate. And totally fine to reply if asked that this isn’t the version that ran but it’s the version you’re proud of.
Cheers, should i password protect it?
I’ve asked about this previously and was advised against it - I’d suggest putting it up before a portfolio review and get some feedback to weigh the pros and cons accurately.
I actually worked with Luke at one time, and I do it whenever I can! Listen, a portfolio is an ‘ad’ for your abilities. Show your best. When I hire, I want to know what you’re capable of, not how safe a client wanted to play it.
Definitely. You can explain what changed during the interview for transparency. But for sure, why not show the version before it got messed up by too many chefs.
Put whatever the hell you want in your book as long as the work is yours.
