I’ve been trying to get into the top tier Associate Product Marketing Manager position Google for some time now for just an interview and I feel like business majors somehow have such a stronger chance in getting interviewed especially my business school and I feel really discouraged as an Econ Major and I have a lot of marketing experience that I’ve built over the years. Are there any non-business majors in the tech realm in non technical positions at Google that can advise me?

Sorry kid, this situation sucks. I’d ramp up networking with people you admire, but wouldn’t push for a job right now. Best thing you can do is expand your network and take advantage of extra time at home for the time being. The good news is that you had 3 final round interviews— that means 3 companies do really want you when they can afford to hire! You’re in better shape than many- the timing is just unfortunate. Maybe reach out to those companies 2ish weeks after they reopen to check in and see if conversations can continue
Thanks much appreciated!
Ask if there’s an opportunity for webex/FaceTime interviews. Good luck! Don’t give up. It might take longer now.
Thank you!
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the situation probably won’t be much different in other locations. There’s so much uncertainty now as to how long this will last and what the long-term effect will be. There’s also an issue with on boarding - with IT teams working remote, the only way to get equipment to people is by ordering new equipment shipped direct from the vendor, which is also an additional cost. In many companies, though they may continue to interview, most roles that aren’t immediately mission critical will be on-hold from offers until lockdowns are over.
