Quality control is something that is repeatedly brought up to me as a development area. How do I improve? I feel like I miss something small every time due to the work/hrs and it gets noticed.

Create a checklist of the usual mistakes and refer to them before sending it out perhaps

like

If it was always client ready when you sent it to him, he has no purpose. Reset expectations with him.

like

Have someone else on your team review first as well.

like

I would resist time pressures a little bit if it means catching mistakes. Most of the time, an extra 30min is not going to make a huge difference to your manager but gives you enough time to double check your work. If mgr is really tight on time, they'll probably come ask what's taking so long, then you can say it's done but you're double checking. If they don't want to wait, then you can send it to them but they know it hasn't been checked. Usually though, they'll probably give you that extra 15-30min to finish checking.

like

Review everything 3 times before showing it to others.

like

Checklist is the best suggestion -- OP you'll get better/faster at going through the checklist as time goes by. Make sure mistakes you've recently made are the first things you check for; you'll look the worst for being called out for the same thing repeatedly

like

Read it backwards. Weird but it works.

like

Delay delivery by 10-15 mins and then revisit

like

This may not go over well with your manager, but when I finish something, I review, I step outside, take a 10 minute walk, then go back print my shit and review on the hard copy

like

Printing it helps me so much - I will always catch things on paper that I miss on screen. Also, reading out loud (or under your breath, whatever). Helps you catch dumb typos/word switches, etc.

like

I don't have this problem when there's someone else junior on the team, right now I'm sending stuff out directly. And my mgr wants everything to be client ready when I send it to him.

like

Find a peer. Set up peer reviews for each other's work.

like

These are all helpful, thanks. How do you manage this with time constraints? I have a checklist but never have time to run through the whole thing. I just can't tell if it's me or a general thing analysts struggle with Bc we're not fully trained yet

+1 @D4. Letting things genuinely sit before a final personal review is usually a great idea. Even if it's a short duration. Things are important, but nothing's worth risking an avoidable ding on your rating.

I am looking for an investment property and reached out to a realtor and had a couple of conversations with them and they have sent me the listings and I told them to start scheduling viewings and told them my availability this weekend with the houses I like. They said they would schedule something but I haven't heard back and it is now Sunday evening. I didn't follow up because I got busy, but is it a sign to change the realtor? What's the best way to find a good realtor?

Need some advice on renting here in ATX.

Back in May 2021, I rented a property that had sustained damage during the big snow storm. This wasn't disclosed at lease signing. The home leaked every time it rained, mold was found in the home & the LL failed to make repairs that resulted in me falling down a flight of stairs. I moved out& rented an apt for 2 mos before signing a lease on the house I live in now. This house has a serious big problem& I've found mold here too. Continued below

The week of my wedding, my husband (PL SQL Developer 4 yoe) was laid off. That was a couple of weeks ago. Luckily I'm still bringing money in as a software engineer, but I'm looking for advice on how to support a partner who has been laid off. Ultimately I think we will be ok, but I know he's hurting / stressed / and could use a supportive partner.

been in industry (small companies) for 5 years with an active CPA. Wanted to get in SEC reporting roles but almost every company requires 2-year public accounting exp. Now applying for public accounting firms entry level positions but almost all firms HR asked if I had ever worked in firms. Got rejection emails from firms all the time. Is this a dead lock? firms exp matters much more than a CPA license?
