I’m in my 50s and I am not treating that as a liability at all. If I show up as articulate, personable, and knowledgeable, I will find my way to the right job. Decide you’re worth a job where you feel good about yourself, because you are.
As far as making yourself marketable, I don’t know what experience you have or need, but if you can identify where you can grow, pursue that. Don’t rule out an employer based on Glassdoor reviews, but maybe use it to think about what questions you want to ask in an interview or follow up conversation.
In the process that you took to get to the point where you were extended an offer, did you ask any questions or obtain any insight related to what you are describing as “bad reviews”?
Relevant experience can make you more marketable as a job candidate for a future role.
Take all of those reviews with a grain of salt. Nobody really leaves a review unless they have something negative to say, and there are probably plenty of happy employees at the company right now.
People seldom take the time to praise employers or previous employers but they will jump to complain, whether valid or not. I am a 59 yo late in life accountant (blue collar until 38) and i can tell you that even bad experience is valuable and there are a lot of outsourcing accounting companies. So if you feel it is a good move, ignore the reviews and give it a try. The experience may open a bunch of new doors. Best wishes in finding your fit!!
