Question for insurance defense attorneys- has anyone dealt with Quovant, which is used as a third party billing auditor? I am revising a lot of younger associates’ work and concerned that my hours will be cut despite my attempts to word my billing to disguise it (as billing guidelines prohibit revisions). Any defense attorneys have experience with this company?

Start by not using the word “revising” in your time entry. I typically say “continued preparation of” or something like that when revising a jr’s work.

They see keyword hits, i.e. “revise” and it’s an automatic write off for carriers that don’t allow it.

like

They mostly search for buzzwords but if you explain enough to show the add value they won’t cut. For example “continue drafting memo of law to incorporate additional case law research regarding statute of limitations” or something that shows substantive revisions rather than copy editing.

Hello! What is the best way to structure a discovery call for SaaS sales? e.g. share a deck, only focus on their use case (current state, goals, pain, etc.), share a story, etc. Lastly, how do you go further than surface level, like if they mention they are having issues with xyz, which is usually a symptom of the problem and not the problem itself. Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

I'm an engineer, and I feel like my manager is more of a friend than anything else. We talk about our personal lives, and I feel like it's hard to be completely honest with her when she's so casual with me. I don't want to lose our friendship, but I also need to be able to talk honestly with someone who has the power to help me grow professionally. Is there a way to have both?

Does anyone work at a firm where legal assistants don't do legal assistant things? For example, I have to do my scheduling and calendaring. I have to upload documents to our file management system. This morning, a name partners assistant didn't realize the name partner had a depo and didn't confirm it. This is how this firm as been for decades and it's incredibly frustrating to work this way. It's so hard to not stress over this daily.

I work in a firm that is known for litigation defense. I’ve been developing my own plaintiffs practice as well. I am able to pay the bills with my hourly defense work, which gives me time to focus on a handful of high value PI case a year on contingency. I was recently negotiating a case and was told part of the reason the claims rep/OC was jerking me around was because they didn’t see me as a plaintiffs attorney. Is there any way to change this perception or does it just come over time?

Hello. I currently work in-house as a Legal Operations Manager. I am working on a project to expand our network of law firms.

Thanks for your recommendations.

At this point, I’m looking forward to telling opposing counsel in this one case that I’m leaving my firm more than telling my firm. Between the ridiculous theory of the case, the truly obnoxious discovery requests, and the self-righteous attitude, I can’t wait to never talk to this guy again.

I work for a small firm (about 20 attorneys) and make 90k. I’m coming up for a raise discussion in a couple of months but don’t know how to go about it/what is reasonable to ask for. I bill about 35 hrs/week at 400/hr, so I think I deserve a bump, especially considering the posture of the market. Any advice/feedback from similarly situated associates or partners at similarly sized firms?
