Question: what do consulting teams mean when they say they are highly diverse and inclusive. When everyone is white?

They were a part of many different clubs at business school.

Beyond what everyone else mentioned, racial diversity isn't the only diversity. Diversity of sexuality, economic/geographic backgrounds, etc.

As a real life example--my 30+ direct reports have quite an array of backgrounds though they're mostly all the same race. I've got two who didn't go to college, a couple with extensive military experience, one who is UHNW, at least one who came from a severely disadvantaged background, folks with disabilities, and a wide array of colleges from community college through HYP, associates degrees through PhDs, and professional experience from the trades through academia and MBB.

I would consider that a very diverse team even though almost all of them are the same race.

Classic consulting: talk the talk but don’t walk the walk

Not just consulting teams, but lots of companies say this too, and when it’s not genuine, it’s performative virtue signaling. If they have White women or the one token visible minority for example, in their Boards or in C-Suite, they’re suddenly “diverse and inclusive” and it kinda just stops there instead of saying they need to work more on bringing in other forms of diversity.

Lol. It’s better than saying you have a token black person for two weeks on your team and claiming you are the most diverse region in NA

That hasn’t been my experience. I do see the lack of diversity in the higher ranks much more than in the lower ranks (eg. white male partners abound). But I’m a white foreigner and I’ve been staffed with people from all over the world and plenty of women. Very different from what it was barely 5-6 years ago.

That said, I haven’t met many Black colleagues.

It means they have to say it but don’t care to do anything about it

Most of my teams are made up of Indians and Chinese people... managed by white people. Pretty diverse.

Because diversity is more than skin color.

Lmao! Maybe diversity in skills ? !

Just found out that my favorite aunt, who claimed I was her “favorite” niece, chose to leave all her valuables to her other two nieces who never visited or called her once in the last ten years. My aunt passed away suffering from cancer last year and didn’t have her own kids. I was there by her side throughout her battle. I still wish I had done more, made her life easier. I probably sound petty, but a part of me is forcing me to re-evaluate every interaction I ever had with her.

Hi I have asked to be an advisor for a startup. Its in its very early stage pre pre-seed. Its looking like weekly strategy calls and possibly some executional work as well. Like building out a sales process and/or training sales and marketing team members (this might be 1-3hr a week of work).

They are offering 1.5-3.5%. — I am wondering if that’s enough.

In addition to this the founder mentioned that he would like me to consider becoming a co-founder.

Can any PPMDs chime in on the comp statements? For the most these are terrible increases. Do you guys & gals agree with what the firm giving your main resources? I don’t understand how it makes sense to have people leave and you pay the incoming people more, as well as, spend more time and money in training them. Just trying to understand the rationale. Wouldnt it make more sense to keep your people happy?

When calculating YOE, if you are working 2 jobs, can you double count those years? For reference, I’ve been an Army Reserves officer for the last 5 years since coming off active duty, and spend about 30-40 hours per month (outside of 2-4 week annual training) on that job. So it’s not like driving Uber, it’s a high stress/very involved job. Technically I have 7 years Active Army + 5 years D + 5 Years reserves if I count them. Don’t know if there’s any practical reason just curious peoples opinion

Is it unreasonable to request superiors to be mindful of their language?
