As a case manager, PLEASE TEACH IT! Our kids don't even know how to sign their names anymore!
Don’t phase it out. There are many studies and scholarly articles on its benefits.
It is great to help dyslexic students. It takes awhile but I saw it help them a lot when I taught elementary school.
I saw a meme once that said that they are no longer teaching cursive in schools so the younger generations can't read the Declaration of Independence, lol. I don't think that's true but it's funny. We still teach it and haven't been told not to (yet).
It's still being taught here. I haven't heard anything that says that'll be changing. It's not the essential skill it might once have been, but I still think it's good for kids to learn, so I hope it sticks around.
I taught 6th grade for 27 years. I had a year in 3rd and 5th too. I can tell you only some of my students knew how to write in cursive and many could not read cursive writing, or that’s what they told me. Interesting enough when they turned in writing assignments, I told them they could use a font they liked, but it had to be easily readable and in size 14…for my ease. Usually half turned in their work using a cursive font. Make that make sense.
We are still teaching it here. It helps with small muscle development and brain processing. Personal opinion, it helps to create their personal style and develop their personality on paper. As a reading teacher, I feel like it develops more confidence in their work and reading different things. That's just what I have observed over the past ten years or so. I think it's beneficial for students to learn.
Still in our standards and still teaching it.
We teach it in third grade. It’s actually required in CA, but we would teach it even if it wasn’t. So may good reasons to keep teaching it!
Were doing a short unit on it in elementary school. I forget which grade. Most of the students can read it but not write it. Occasionally one will take an interest and use cursive.
We are experiencing a push to do more paper assignments though so I think we might see a cursive comeback in the near future.
Cursive writing is useful for certain type of cognitive development. Find articles about this!
Not taught here. Some teachers are offering it as an after school enrichment activity
That’s great. I’d stay after for that class and supervise
