I interviewed with Firm A months ago and accepted a position to start this upcoming fall. Group leader called me to offer the position back in November 2020. Besides interviewing with partners at the firms, and diligent follow ups notifying them of my interest to get started, no communication has transpired since. It turns out that I accepted a better offer w/ Firm B for personal reasons and won’t be going to Firm A. What is the best way to notify Firm A? Call/email group leader? Call/email HR?
Im currently working at a Data Center, I’m Currently L3 and I’m wanting to see other options within Google. The problem is, as much as I reach out to Hiring managers and other Googlers in other ladders for information on what they do to get a better idea of other roles, I get no response. What’s a good way of networking to other googlers in other ladders. I feel Data Centers are so looked down upon and so out of touch with the rest of Google

Don’t threaten me with a good time
I lost my job last year due to a "restructure", had to take a job that offered $15k less than what i was making but I am much happier where I am now because that job felt verrryy off from my first day.
The difference within the pay was $300 per paycheck. A price I'd happy pay to have a better work life balance.
I took a bigger cut than that and it has been the best move I ever made. It was the price of getting life back into balance. A weird side effect is that I actually enjoy work more too.
If I could still afford my life, sure. Definitely would try to negotiate salary if possible to break even though
Pro
Yes. Especially if the new gig comes with a good probability of upward advancement.
10K is nothing after taxes. So yes take that offer.
1000000% living that life now and it was a $30K cut. I saw it coming from a mile away (the “merger”) so worked to downsize my life for about a year leading up to it.
Yes, and it wouldn’t be that difficult of a decision to make.
Yes. Dep on your salary. If it’s a difference of 70 to 60k that might be tougher than say going from 150 to 140k.
I did just that about 10 years ago and I have no regrets. My stress levels were through the roof at my last job so I went from senior copy at an agency in NYC to senior editor at an agency much closer to home. Now, I am married so the pay cut did not affect my lifestyle, but I would have done it even if I were single. I also have a fun side job that is a dream job, so it all works out.
Yes, I definitely would, unless I really couldn’t afford to, it would be worth the sacrifice for me.
Short answer, yes. 10k is nothing after taxes. Long answer, is there zero wiggle room? Meet in the middle at $5k difference? If they want you, they’ll be able to find that.
Also, if it’s truly that much less stressful, you could make up the difference with a little side hustle fairly easily.
Absolutely. Where do I sign?
No
Yes.
