By 18 he meant push your limits. And he put it as a suggestion for head start in career. Why people want to get offended by everything. Simply ignore and move on if you do not like it. People ought to be more mature.
Sure, thanks for the tip!
I don't really understand why such things are always taken in a negative light. He said he did it, not like he's asking others to. And to be very honest, he isn't wrong. If you are someone who wants to climb up the corporate ladder and have influential position then you have to put in more work compared to someone who's content with just being there. You have to be available, be on top of your game and build enough dependency, all which requires more hours. Maybe not 18 hours but definitely way more than the normal 8 hours. This has been going on for ages and I don't see this fact changing anytime soon.
Also I feel this is changing with newer folks joining the organisation. Leaving aside the ones who are just content being there and not keen on putting extra efforts, others who are efficient, productive, good communicators and technically strong are making all the difference with just regular hours. It's refreshing to see because I have myself worked with managers who enforced 10 hrs a day and brought it up in appraisals with no regards to quality of work. To see the mentality even slightly changing is great.
This guy just posted what a lot of leaders think but don't speak of to stay politically correct.
As said by srk first become rich then become philosopher. He has achieved he can say anything it's up to us to digest it or not.

UPSC na nikaal le kya koi itna time padhke 🤣 .
He sounds sadistic , maybe if your priority is to mint money in this limited life then listen to him else ignore .
In most companies, this doesn't even lead to good money. Maybe early promotion and more responsibilities.
And a lot of unhealthy habits because once you have wired yourself to do this, you cannot go back without feeling guilty of underperforming
For career growth everyone has forgotten the real wealth that is our health . If you are working beyond your limits then it's definitely going to impact our health in long term . If working 18 hrs is necessary to make growth then eventually it will lead us to serious health complications in future. But everyone have there own choices in terms of health and wealth. At last , wealth is totally waste without health.
For any ceo or company we are just resources from where they get there billing. So to increase there profits they can push us to any limit irrespective of our well-being. But exceptions are always present as there are many good bosses also who care for there employees.
Thanks to the bosses who guide their employees to success without having them burn themselves out to stay ahead.
I just feel the problem is not with having this school of thought that working hard leads to definite success. It does. But the way it was worded was so so problematic. Calling grievances rona dhona is one red flag. Saying openly that work life balance is important but not that early. Asking people to worship work is another. I don't think anyone in the position of leadership like his should be acting like this specially on social media, in a time and age where people are prioritising mental and physical health over other things as they should. If he wanted to sound wise then he made a disaster.
I have done the slogging in my early career as well, not saying it doesn't help to some extent. But then I also regret missing out a lot on life now. Putting in that extra to learn and self develop is surely necessary. But to throw myself in it just to meet expectations of bosses like him is not an investment of any kind.
Lastly, why should giving it your all be only important in first 5 yrs of the career? One should be putting in that effort throughout to stay relevant and to be capable of coaching others.
We all certainly know a manager who maybe slogged for first 5 years and does nothing except making excels and logging off at 6 pm now. Do we respect them? Not a lot.
I agree this is somewhat disturbing but on the other hand this is true also. We are not English country to get everything easily. So we have to work ass off to get better salary. If skills are not honed we all wont get much paid.
Putting in efforts to meet your ambitions is to each his own. But for a leader to come in and say he advocates only the long hours and negating everything about work life balance is scary.
Everyone should be given the choice of putting in the extra when they want. It can be 10 yrs down the line too why just first 5 years.
Richness is something that have no limits, you will always aspire more . We are just normal humans earning to survive, so comparing your lives with them is a kind unrealistic approach. And giving good advice to someone regarding health is never a philosophy, it's just a good advice. But some people will not understand I guess.
This happens anywhere if you good by heart or habits nobody cares all they cares in salary
Saw the same, bombay shaving company ceo right ? Not only he mentioned to work extra hour but also for 4-5 year of your carrier. Basically he wants to donate your 20s in work only. When will life enjoyment will happen then?
Probably in 50s because once you have wired yourself to slog it will take several years to undo that for yourself. And also you will be imposing that expectation on your juniors when you go up the ladder. And then they will leave the company which would be fair.
I read through that post and the guy was dragged by media, he has to disable his linkedin. I mean it is ok as a CEO to motivate and ask new generation to work hard, but as soon as you put a quantifiable number to something it becomes a fact. And no one wants to take a fact of working 18 hours for 5 years. No human body is designed to work that way that too for this long. I guess it takes to be a CEO , but takes more to be a motivational speaker. Poor guy could not cross that benchmark!
Yes but you know people mindset, bad publicity not always falls for good. Already have hastags to boycott BSC products.
