Received an offer as a senior fund accountant, but I’m not 100% sure fund accounting would be for me. I feel like it may limit exposure and potential future opportunities compared to a typical senior accounting role. It’s a great company so I’m having trouble making a decision.

It is kind of limiting but no matter what you are going to have to narrow down your options eventually. Its not a bad space to be in. Can be monotonous or boring at times but there are a lot of options in the investment company space.

like

^ this. Almost anything out of public is limiting in one way or another... just as staying in public can be.

Thanks for your responses! I’m just worried I’ll get bored looking exclusively at investment related activities as opposed to seeing variety in a company that’s more consumer based.

Pigeonholed

Fund accounting is pointless. No exit opps, if you want to stay making the same salary for years on end do it.

Cisco

Pros:

- fairly decent place to work (from someone who worked with the Vancouver and San Jose offices). never met a blue badger (permanent employee) who had awful things to say.

- Ashley Goodall (their SVP, Methods & Intelligence) co-authored a brilliant book on leadership and people management called “Nine Lies About Work” that makes me believe they can be an awesome place to work

Cons:

- red badgers had low morale since they’re contract workers and can be terminated at any time

Is this how it will always be? Or is this predominantly because I am in lower positions at this point in my career?

For B4 - For teams with temp (contractor) seniors - I’ve noted that they are held to the same work quality standards of normal full time seniors, while not getting any of the senior trainings or perks that would go with that perm role (just some basic survivals trainings at best), nor the access to the perm positions once they prove they can do the job. Then heard they are viewed as little higher than outsource teams (i.e., the offshore teams only given non-judgmental work). What’s your opinion?
