I had to work for a porn site pitch once. I had to use my sick days that week
If this is someone like planned parenthood, I can definitely see your dilemma. Although I would point out that planned parenthood, specifically, does a lot outside of providing abortions. That’s actually a very small part of what they do. Much of it is centered around women’s health and providing equal access opportunities. That being said I totally understand if you just can’t stomach it.
I would say this, though. I come from a very conservative/religious background. And I am still very religious. I was raised to be “pro-life” in the political sense. But the more I’ve thought about it over the years, the more I see that politically this is a very complicated issue. Of course, I view abortion as an abomination that should only be employed in the most dire of circumstances. But I also have the greatest respect for individual freedoms and I don’t think anyone is more qualified to make the decision on whether an unborn fetus lives or dies that the woman who is carrying that child, along with her doctor. Certainly, it’s not the government’s job to make that decision for her. It seems like the two political sides are often fighting two different battles, with republicans fighting for the practice of abortion to be illegal and democrats fighting not for abortion to be legal, but fighting for a woman’s right to choose what happens to her body and her unborn child. And many organizations like planned parenthood often assume the role or human rights organizations, fighting simply to give women the right to choose. Because I do believe it’s a personal decision. To me, in most cases, it’s the wrong one. But it is not mine or the government’s decision to make.
All that being said, I’m still not totally sure where I net out on all of this. All I know for sure is that this issue is not black and white. There’s much more nuance to the situation. This understanding has helped me in the past when confronting a very similar issue at work.
I’m assuming this has to do with homosexuality? The word is one of love and compassion for others. If you do not exemplify that in your words and actions then you are blind
@cd1 not homosexuality. It’s for a group that condones abortion.
I understand your dilemma and it’s a tough choice that only you are going to have to make.
I say refuse to work on the client ask for an unpaid vacation. If you truly believe what your doing is right in your heart of hearts, then there is no reason to feel shame or fear in standing up for your beliefs.
Secondly, don’t be like @Sr.Ad1 who had to LIE to get out of the work. How is that Christian?
Tell the truth. The worst they can tell you is “no", which I think is illegal, but either way you’ll know if this is the kind of agency you’d want to work at.
It's not wrong to take sick days or avoid. You don't have to be a martyr. Dodge and avoid, it's worked for me for 10 years.
