Recommendations please for a non-Mac laptop for personal use. Need it to be awesome for studying and learning - excel, coding, etc. Not an engineer but recently lost my job and want to use the time to learn analytics, SQL, etc

If you’re going to code, just get a Mac. I really don’t like coding on Windows machines.

Otherwise, the newest Dell XPS laptops would be my choice.

Macs are decently close to Linux in terms of environment, but still offer mass market appeal.

If you're going to do anything web related Macs will solve you some headaches because you have easy access to everything open source.

Traditional software dev or games? Windows may be a better choice IMO.

I wouldn’t get a Mac, given you likely will use PCs on the job and your goal is the practice these tools for work, I would stick to a PC so you don’t need to unlearn/relearn all the different button configurations

Lot of companies giving options to get a Mac instead of windows now.

I'm a recent grad who accepted an entry-level full-time job offer with Capital One. I knew that MBB and other consulting firms rarely ever negotiate salary with new grads, so I didn't with Capital One as well. Was that a mistake? What were the likelihoods that they would have raised my salary? I had no other competing offers at the time

Anyone using Edward Jones? Feel like we did a mistake and rolled over all my husbands retirement accounts from different employers and our kids 529 under them Jan 2020. Since then market is down and accounts lost20%. But the fees every month is pretty high around $200. I am worried to move it to fidelity or some other place and manage myself(not very confident), then I have to sell all of the Edward Jones managed funds and buy new. sell low buy low makes sense but don’t want to loose anymore.

Cisco

Pros:

- fairly decent place to work (from someone who worked with the Vancouver and San Jose offices). never met a blue badger (permanent employee) who had awful things to say.

- Ashley Goodall (their SVP, Methods & Intelligence) co-authored a brilliant book on leadership and people management called “Nine Lies About Work” that makes me believe they can be an awesome place to work

Cons:

- red badgers had low morale since they’re contract workers and can be terminated at any time

Do it, I dare you. 😑
