Rising 5th year here. I can’t keep doing general commercial lit. Anyone like working in specific/specialized areas of litigation? Or literally anything besides general com lit???

If your firm has a white collar/investigations group, try that. It barely resembles lit in terms of motion practice/depositions and almost none of their cases end up in court.

Employment litigation is so much more tolerable (in my opinion)

Not as intense but the cases/clients are way more emotional

Why can’t you keep doing it?

I have been litigating insurance coverage and bad faith cases for almost 20 years now and I love it. Might be worth looking into if you have been handling contract disputes.

For those of you who got out at 10, do you wish that you rode it out to 20? I’m at a crossroad and I’m not sure what to do. Have some active/reserve time, wrapping up graduate school, and am now considering either a) come back to the business world or b) go active and retire before 50 and live off a nice pension. Obviously there are draws to both. I’m an officer for what it’s worth so I can realistically retire at O-5, MAYBE O-6.

So here in CA there is a lot of talk about certain jurisdictions doing virtual jury trials. As a firm we won’t agree to it and if push comes to shove we’ll take it up on. Writ. What is everyone else’s opinion?

I’ve settled a couple cases and working on a third settlement. FL peoples: I signed a lease for a new place to start May 1 as my current landlord sold the unit I'm in. Turns out, the buyer wants to keep renting the unit and asked if I want to stay. For the new lease, I'm still pending full approval from a condo association as I have to do an in person interview. I have paid first months rent in advance. Is there anyway to get that money back?

I work in a firm that is known for litigation defense. I’ve been developing my own plaintiffs practice as well. I am able to pay the bills with my hourly defense work, which gives me time to focus on a handful of high value PI case a year on contingency. I was recently negotiating a case and was told part of the reason the claims rep/OC was jerking me around was because they didn’t see me as a plaintiffs attorney. Is there any way to change this perception or does it just come over time?

I practice litigation defense and recently started growing a plaintiffs practice on my own at my firm. I’ll probably bring in $300k to the firm just from that this year. I have a partner who routinely ignores emails or responds to them several weeks later. He has to approve every single document sent to the client or the court, which means you have a physically go to his office to ask him to review something. Half of the time you go to meet with him in person, he’s either on a call or otherwise busy. I find that this basically creates more work and makes meeting deadlines extremely difficult. Is this normal?

Thanks for your recommendations.
