SC did the right thing. There could be headache or growing pains in the short term but it is a necessary market correction. Same goes for Ayodhya. The legal argument for a Ram temple there is very strong and I hope we put the subject to rest once and for all.
Those who know the legend of Sabarimala know that it's neither discrimination nor exploitation of women. I urge every woman to first research and read about the legend of Sabarimala before jumping to conclusions.
The debate isn’t about whether the SC has the right to interfere. The debate is whether women should be allowed into sabarimala. I would consider it a source of pride,as a Hindu, that we as a society can move forward with the times and also to have an open debate about it - which not all religions can claim to do.
SM1, hopefully you will support the SC decision either way. I think that’s the whole point of this post
I’m not left wing at all. Firmly right of center here from a fiscal standpoint. I lambast dumb shit across all religions. Couldn’t care less about it.
Everything does mot need to be symbolic. Does allowing women in ONE temple improve equality for women . No!! SC with its leftist agenda is trying to control and change religious practice which will not go down well . I mean did they ever consider cost of implementing this symbolism !
@A1 that is correct, nobody can bar women, but per my point above, we highly overestimate how ideal and pluralistic our society is. Extreme conservatives exist in all religions, with the kind of behavior that is being currently exhibited in the violence. If they were ideal, there would have been no violence - this is not any body's fault. But for a so called 'moral' victory, who won? How are women being uplifted with this verdict? How is it changing lives of that median wage earner in India? And don't forget, it was a 2-1 verdict here, with a woman judge dissenting. Read her explanation - she wasn't a misogynistic judge and I am neither. Sometimes a judgement is not black or white. It needs to be grey, isn't Law for betterment of the society? What changed with this verdict that makes a difference?
I think the verdict is important in that religion is a huge part of life in India. And when you make changes like this it will eventually trickle down (hopefully) into society.
P1, pok is an international issue , women getting access to a temple in a national issue. It’s apple and oranges , like literally , National social dispute which hits on discrimination vs a border dispute between two countries. SC has a major impact on one and zero on the other. I’ll let you guess which one.
On African Americans , it’s a reference to a country called the United States. There it was considered black man was inferior to white man and believe it or not, the argument was literally based on how god made it that way. Well, they risked peace with confederacy over it and a massive negative backlash. Lincoln was assassinated over it.Should they have waited a bit to make sure the time is right? Or the popular opinion is in their favor ? You can guess again. Why do we need an SC if they need to rely on the timing ? Why not just let the mob decide? You see the relevance , eh?
Ppl - YouTube Sadhguru's point on Sabarimala.
P3 how can you just make a blanket statement that we don’t know or believe in the shrine. I’m a devout Hindu and I’ve made two trips there myself. It’s a bit ridiculous to claim that those who think women should go there are not believers. For all you claiming this is about traditionalism and Hinduism - is it your claim as well that you follow everything Hinduism lays down? Cut the shit.
And for all you wanting to use labels and claim this is some left wing agenda. How convenient is it for you to be right wing when it comes to events in India but oh wait - when you’re in the US you’re left wing or left of center because you want to immigrate and Work here.
Ac1 you are a liar and a dumb ass one at that. If you visited the shrine as a believer, you would obviously know the legends and expectations of the presiding Deity. To the rest of you reading this: "I made 2 trips myself" is a dead giveaway.
What's is this, a Disneyland for you to make a trip? And twice at that? What is the need to inject your personal make believe stuff and that too, twice!!
Anyways, all the communist goons, police of your government, your courts, and the two idiot women who were obviously not devotees backed down and wussed out due to actions and convictions of one man, the head tantri and the devotees who assembled there.
This issue is closed, and we all know who blinked.
So run along and wait for a new set of instructions from your masters or news fakers on TV.
Think thru and come up with a more credible lie next time.
And to follow up, I dont care about American politics coz it is not my place and pretty sure it is not yours too. They can do what they want with their regulations, coz they gave it to us, we don't come to USA with a birthright.
Plus @EY2 if you know your research correct, there is a reason why H1B is becoming a premium. Indian firms have abused the system and I am being mild. About time we acknowledge that is collateral damage and it is not like Republicans were a dying entity. As much as 2 presidents ago, George Bush had 2 terms. People voted him in, as did people in India for Modi. What you are referring to is redneck entitlement, and I'd say you are shortsighted and highly conveniently associating that with Republicans. Those 2 are different things.
“You guys” 🤦🏽♂️. Yes PwC1, everything is about us vs them.
And you know what, I do care about my principles, values and respect for human life. One doesn’t need to “follow American or Indian politics” to have basic empathy, stand up for those values and speak up when voices of marginalized communities, their rights are suppressed.
EY2 - I stand by my observations on the Sabarimala issue. FYI - I am apolitical.
If you have any valid points to debate my previous comment, then most welcome. But don't bring this right vs left BS. I am neither. I always appreciate constructive debates.
Off topic but Indian firms have definitely abused the H1B system and we are now collateral damage. I can’t fault Trump for trying to clean the mess (though I might disagree with how he’s approaching the situation). And it’s not about us coming to the US with a “birthright” or whatever someone above said. It’s about the unfair system where Indians are pretty much ONLY people stuck in the perpetual web of visas. Everyone else gets employment based green cards in a reasonable timeframe.
Conversely, what is with EY and their love for Indian left? Is this where the Indian communists and children of leftist party leaders congregate after their education in the evil capitalist country? We all know that the children of Indian leftist leaders and leftist journalists are either studying or working in the same country their parents rail against in media against the evil USA!!!
PwC2. Read my comment again. I was pointing out to the very “left vs right” lens of looking at this debate by PwC1 and the subsequent left bashing in every of comment of his/her which was absolutely uncalled for
So many keyboard warriors. Lol.
