I joined Amgen with nearly 9 years of experience as a manger on December 1 2025 with high expectations, excited to contribute and grow where they preach Amgen’s mission is to serve patients. However, my 5-month journey turned into one of the most disappointing professional experiences of my career due to poor leadership and lack of meaningful HR support.
From the beginning, instead of proper onboarding and support, I faced excessive micromanagement, disrespect, and constant scrutiny. A missed stakeholder call during my initial days was treated as a major failure rather than a normal part of adapting to a new role and organization.
Within 3 months, I was placed on a 30-day improvement plan, which felt less like a genuine effort to help me improve and more like an attempt to prove incompetence. The feedback was often vague, personal, and not constructive. Statements suggesting I needed “handholding” for basic tasks like drafting emails were inaccurate and disrespectful, especially considering my prior experience.
The most unacceptable incident occurred during a training session attended by team members reporting to me and external vendors. I was publicly questioned and put on the spot in front of everyone, despite visible discomfort. Instead of private coaching, public humiliation was chosen. This was not performance management, it was a clear failure of leadership and professional respect. This entire incident was recorded and I have shown this video to head of the HR, ED of the function where under no circumstance the behaviour of my manager was justified.
When I raised these concerns with HR head and team, expecting fairness and support, there was no meaningful action or neutral resolution. Instead, my laptop, ID and phone were collected, and I was placed on garden leave. Garden leave is the worst thing any employer could do to an employee. This felt like punishment for speaking up rather than a fair investigation of workplace concerns.
I am not writing this to badmouth anyone, but to speak my truth with honesty and dignity. I believe karma takes its own course, but silence should never come at the cost of self-respect. No employee deserves to be treated this way, regardless of role or performance.
I only hope Amgen reflects more deeply on leadership accountability, employee dignity, and the true purpose of HR is not just to protect hierarchy, but to protect fairness.
I sincerely hope no other employee has to go through a similar experience.
Note: I have reached out to senior leadership after I resigned and raised all this concerns and even showed the video recoding and found that they do not have a spine and I wouldn’t consider them as Leaders
Hey, I also Joined on 1st Dec , coming from a good Product Company, but due to lack of support and culture, toxic environment, resigned in just 3 months.

It is unfortunate, the video clearly shows how my manager came into the training room and interrupted the training and said that she came with a surprise and it’s a surprise test and goes ahead and says she nominates me to explain what I learned about in the last one week of training’s Once I start by saying I remember the training that happened yesterday she insists to start from last one week after that again she interrupts as I speak and says let’s do it this way why don’t you briefly explain what you learned in the training’s that were happening for entire day everyday for last three weeks. I was clearly uncomfortable in that situation given that it was happening in front of people who report to me and there were vendors who were doing the training’s. I started telling the topics we discussed from the beginning of the training’s and she has the audacity to go further ahead and mock by saying you don’t have to draw and show it on the board but to just describe what you have learned overall the last three weeks. This was all recorded fortunately so I don’t have to speak but show evidence on what level someone can stoop being a senior manager herself
After this the HRBP schedule a meeting this was when I was on third day of my notice period as I have already resigned immediately after that traumatic incident and they asked me to submit my laptop, ID and phone and leave the office and they put me on garden leave which is the last thing any employer will do that too without any of my fault
May i know her first name if you are okay?
The exact same things happened at BMS Hyderabad as well. Everyone joined there after knowing a good pharma company newly starting their operations in India, so expected a good career. But the Indian managers especially in Finance team, ruined the mental peace of employees who joined there with a lots of hope. We could see clear partiality by Senior leadership Managers showing great hospitality and promotions to CA freshers who doesn't even know how to work on Excel. At the same time, people who worked hard all these years are facing discrimination and avoidance. Every US or other MNCs after coming to India, these stupid Indian managers earn lakhs without doing anything but screw up our life's.
What is a garden leave?
Chief
They take your laptop and ID but you wait for your last working day doing nothing. It’s because they think you might persuade others to leave too 😂

This is what happens when they hire wrong people as managers.
Do you feel in other team also they feel such kind of incidence?
