It sounds like you're being trusted with the hardest problems, but unfortunately, trust doesn't always translate into recognition or fair compensation. I hope you find a company that values quality, integrity, and leadership as much as you do, you deserve that
Yes, I agree with you and unfortunately, and this came from an upper management individual, "if people don't like how we do things, they can go. We'll just get someone else to fill their position."
I don't think you get past that kind of attitude.
Chief
It's not about the career. Every employer wants their employees to work as quickly and efficiently as possible, regardless of the tasks they are required to perform.
You need to find a way to balance your desire for quality and your employer's desire for speed. Once you've found that balance, your reputation will speak for you and you won't have to have the same arguments.
Thank you for sharing this so honestly. It takes real resilience to keep delivering quality when the environment rewards quantity.
Do you think the issue is the company culture, or is it the construction industry as a whole? I'd be interested to hear your perspective
Company culture without a doubt. I have friends in other companies who don't go through this.
As soon as I find another position in a respectful company, I'm out.
Firstly, I am in agreement with you being tasked with more difficult assignments because you are trusted. The higher the ladder, the harder the work in some cases; however, true professionals know that quality supersedes quantity anyday. If they are requiring quantity as a noted KPI, then you should inquire about how significant quantity is to business operations & what deadlines need to be met to achieve such?! I would also advise you to speak to your supervisor and/or HR regarding your current compensation and how it aligns with the role. You mentioned you are on the lower end of the pay scale so bringing this to their attention on whether this parallels to fair pay, current competition, and/or growth opportunities would be useful to you. Is pay by performance? Inform them of your long-term goals moving forward and how the company can ensure you get there! No one wants to be underpaid or undervalued. Communication goes a long way, hope this helps…
Thank you for your advise and someone in your role would know how to achieve this, however, I just feel abused at this point and don't even want to stay. It's not really worth the effort, and this company has a way of targeting people who speak out. It's a very toxic environment, unfortunately.
I may take your advise in the short term and at least be heard.
Thanks again!
