You will never have more salary negotiation power than BEFORE you take a job.
This is absolutely correct. If you're "fully-functional" in your skill set, market midpoint is common. Bring the point up respectfully.
I was once in a similar position where I accepted an underpaid offer out of hesitation and self-doubt. Over time, I realized the importance of understanding market value and negotiating based on experience, skills, and industry standards.
From my perspective, it is important not to undervalue yourself during the hiring process, as salary decisions can have long-term impact on career growth and financial stability. Confidence in presenting your value to the market can make a significant difference in outcomes.
I would balance how much you need the job to how much you value your skill set.
Also if you feel your skills are at a premium level, does the company realise this, if so are they taking advantage of desperation. If this is the case, do you want to work for a company like that? Do you have the luxury of choosing ?
No I haven't, that's what my post is about, seeing if that's a good idea or not
Negotiation and a normal. You shouldn’t tank the offer just by asking. Push for whatever you can get just don’t be greedy. Anything more is better than nothing more. Then if you perform well bring it up again at your yearly review.
Contracts are a negotiation. If you don't bring it up now. You're going to become delightful and they won't get offended if you say it the right way. So make sure you type it into your AI that you have a task and an uncomfortable conversation job given the details and he'll give you three or four different options
Based on the advertised salary range and the level of experience that I bring to the position, I was expecting my offer to be in the (50TH OR 75TH) percentile....
If you wait to discuss in a month, you will have missed the opportunity to discuss it
